Why population when talking about our environment and animals?
Currently, the population of the Earth is growing at a rate of 80 million per year, headed towards 10 billion by the middle of this century. Humans are not only consuming resources at a rate that is unsustainable, but are responsible for climate change and the sixth mass extinction. And, developed countries, such as the U.S. are consuming resources at a rate that is a hundred or more times greater than that of third world countries.
We all want a comfortable life, but this will not be possible for future generations if we do not choose smaller families today and make educated decisions about our food, space, energy use and overall consumption. The following film shows the growth of human population from 1CE to 2050. It is shocking to see humans devouring the Earth, leaving little room/resources for other species, or, future generations.
